Advanced Retina Care

The retina of your eyes is delicate and light-sensitive. Any damage or distress to the Retina can affect your vision and impact your daily life. The primary treatment plans for vitreo-retinal problems involve attention to general eye health, and resolving macular degeneration, diabetes, infections or trauma.

Diabetes can impact the blood vessels in your eyes and distort your vision upto the point of losing eyesight. Posterior Vitreous Detachment can lead to retinal tears if not treated in a timely manner.

Treatment

Vitreo-Retinal issues can be best treated with Laser Photocoagulation and cryotherapy in order to repair the retina and treat scar tissues and cloudy vitreous.

AMD

Macula is the area of the eye that allows us to see in high definition and allows detailed vision for activities like reading and driving. Any damage to the macula results in AMD or Age-Related Macular Degeneration. This can be hereditary or caused due to trauma or infection. AMD is classified into two subtypes of “Dry” and “Wet” degeneration. In dry AMD results in loss of pigment cells under the retina, impacting its function and resulting in blind spots. Such blind spots can also be formed due to formation of deposits of fatty protein called drusen. In wet AMD abnormal blood vessels under the macula start swelling and bleeding. This can result in rapid vision loss.

Macular Pucker & Macular Hole

A Macular pucker is a layer of scar tissue that grows on the surface of the retina causing a bulging in the macula, impacting our ability to see our surroundings in detail. The patient complains of greyish, wavy and blurry vision. When the macular tissue stretches and breaks, this results in a macular hole causing the vision to get blurred and distorted. Smaller macular holes can repair themselves but if the condition progresses this can result in development of blind spots and a need for surgical treatment.

Treatment

Vitrectomy is a procedure where the vitreous humor gel is removed in order to carry surgical repairs, including the removal of scar tissue, laser repair of retinal detachments and treatment of macular holes.
